Social Media Marketing: Does it Really Work?
Social media marketing has been hailed the ideal way to market online. But does it really work? If you spend your time building communities on social media, what results can you expect?
Your success (or lack of it) on social media depends on your participation in each platform. If you spend minimal time posting and interacting, they you can expect minimal growth. However, is you are engaging and more active, and are posting at the right times, you can have a greater impact on the buzz you are generating, the traffic to your website, and your sales. Though it’s not instantaneous, with time and effort you can realize great results.
So what results can you expect?

Who you are, your unique skills, knowledge and abilities, and your message are all a part of your brand. Using social media, you can get your message across to a greater number of people, gain credibility, and turn followers into loyal customers. By sharing what you know about your industry, answering questions, and helping others, you can develop greater worth in your potential customers’ eyes.
Creating a Buzz
By being present, consistently present, on social media, you can connect with your community in ways that are not possible with traditional forms of marketing. You are able to exchange interesting stories, links to information that matters, and get a peek into the personal lives of your followers. Social media also allows you to meet and interact with people you may not otherwise have met, opening your reach globally.
Build Your List of Subscribers
Social media allows entrepreneurs to offer content that matters to their market which often results in repeat traffic. And a good number of those who return stick around to subscribe to newsletters or sign up for free offers. The type of content that attracts are articles that are helpful like how-to’s and tutorials. By creating this type of resource for your audience, you can begin building a list as well and building your brand.
Generate Sales
Your correct use of social media marketing can influence your sales. When done right, a sales offer can be a welcomed message. Whether your message sends potential buyers to a sales page, blog post, new products or free offers, it can translate into sales if the message is relevant and the offer meets the expressed needs of your target.
Social media can deliver powerful results if your marketing strategies are well thought-out and are consistently put into action.

It’s one of those things you have to do, and be consistent on, without seeing direct, tangible results always. I do get traffic to my shop from social media, so it does have an impact. I think it’s like what they always say in marketing–that you have to say something over and over for people to hear it, and just be present in their minds. Social media can accomplish that for you. I’m trying a few promoted posts on Facebook to test them out. You can reach thousands more with just $5. I did get a few sales after. Have you tried those?

Hi Courtney! Good point on how social media can help get your message out so people can hear it. I have used promoted posts a few times and found good success with it as well. The key is to have an enticing or engaging post that will appeal to your followers. Sounds like you’ve found how to do just that.

Social media is incredibly powerful, but I think a lot of people don’t understand that you have to create ACTUAL RELATIONSHIPS with people, before you can expect any results. It def takes work, but is very worth it.
Thanks for the great article!
